Pelekys (Battle Axe) Jammer against GPS guided munitions
|
|
The dawn of new order was Desert Storm. In tactical warfare
this was signalled by a major development: Air Power and Precision Guided Munitions
)PGM) means that the enemy has the ability to strike anywhere within friendly territory
and no location or installation is immune from the moment its coordinates are known.
Recently this strike capability has been extended from fixed location targets (e.g Command and Control Centers, Air Bases, Munition Dumbs, Shelters, Officers Residence) to mobile high value targets (e.g naval units, mobile missile and Radar units) thanks to real time location acquisition are subjet to air strike by cruise missiles or PGMs. Main component of this capability is GPS which either enhances traditional systems (INS, IMU, Terrain TERCOM, etc) or most recently GPS alone enables strike of a target (fixed or mobile) with precision. No target is longer safe, even a small passenger vehicle in the wilderness. |
| Pelekys (battle axe) system aims to minimize the all
weather and around the clock lethal capability of these weapons. It is by no means
panacea because electro-optical, thermal (IR, UV) or Inertial (INS, IMU) systems
co-exist with the GPS within most of these weapons and therefore total immunity from
strike is rather an impossible claim. Pelekys system in its basic form enables total elimination (jamming) of the GPS guidance element of such a weapon and therefore reduces significantly its hit probability and kill probabibility by rendering its original 1-2 m CEP significantly greater which practically means higher survivability for a target for a given warhead. |
